Diglyphus isaea

Diglyphus isaea is a wasp from the Eulophid family, widely distributed in the Mediterranean basin, associated with the species Liriomyza. Among the biological pest control products on the market, this tiny wasp is one of the most effective insects that are easy to use in protecting crops such as tomatoes, eggplants, ornamental plants, as well as in the field to protect salads, celery, etc.

The adult is an insect about 1,5-2 mm long with a black elongated body and short antennae. The insect is actively spreading among crops and is highly resistant to difficult climatic conditions. Before laying eggs near the host larva, the female stings the larva, causing its paralysis. The adult comes out of a round hole that cuts through the tissues of the leaf. Development from the egg stage to the adult strictly depends on temperature and can occur very rapidly (in 10 days at a temperature of 25 °C).

Life expectancy is very high compared to other parasitoids. Depending on the conditions, the female can lay from 60 to 100 eggs. The population of miner moths is reduced not only by parasitizing them, but also by eating host insects. Due to this, as well as the high ability to search for food, the preventive (early) use of this insect is very effective. Even in conditions of severe pest damage, the parasitoid is able to quickly destroy pests foci; the recommended amount for use on any plants is 0.5–2 individuals per square metre.

Application of Diglyphus:

The use of Diglyphus is reduced to preventive applications as soon as the first signs of miners are detected. The first leaves with mines in the greenhouse are a signal for introduction. Usually helps to cope with the damage of miners 3-4 applications in the amount of 1-2 wasps per m2. Diglyphus moves perfectly, so the distance between the points in the rows can be 15-20 metres.
