Amblyseius andersoni

Predatory mite in the family Phytoseiidae. Amblyseius andersoni is used to control various phytophagous mites: spider mite, russet mite, red fruit mite, etc. Indirectly controls thrips, but it is not Andersoni’s priority prey. In the absence of natural prey on plants, it can feed on plant pollen. Entomophage finds application on garden, berry, ornamental and vegetable crops. This is a small parasitic morphic mite up to 1 mm in size with a light beige translucent colour. It lives, most often, on the lower part of the leaf and lays eggs there. The population consists of male and female individuals, approximately in the proportion of 40/60, but this indicator may vary depending on the habitat conditions. The predator develops best at temperatures from 20 to 25 °C and humidity of more than 65%.

Application of Amblyseius andersoni:

Andersoni is considered a preventive means of biosecurity, so the maximum effect can be achieved by evicting the predator even before the pest appears. This entomophage against spider mite on cucumber is used in the norms, as a rule, at least 25 individuals per plant. A universal approach can be recommended:

• Prevention (in the absence of a pest) — 5-10 individuals per plant every 2 weeks;
• At the first signs of a pest — every 2 weeks, add 25 individuals to the plant and to the foci, using the rule of the ratio of predator to pest 1:1;
• With a further increase in the number of pests — 50 individuals per plant and in foci, weekly until the pest population decreases.
